The Sabar Dairy Plant

The Sabar Dairy Plant is currently the largest dairy processing facility in India for curd, buttermilk, and yogurt, situated in Rohtak, Haryana. It was inaugurated in October 2025 by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and was built at a cost of approximately ₹350 crore. This plant is a major initiative under the cooperative movement and aims to empower milk producers, particularly benefiting farmers across Haryana and neighboring states.

Key Features

  • The plant processes 150 metric tonnes of curd, 10 metric tonnes of yogurt and sweets, and 3 lakh liters of buttermilk every day, supplying the growing demand of the Delhi-NCR region and northern India.

  • Sabar Dairy, originally based in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat, expanded its operations through this state-of-the-art facility in Haryana, thus serving a wider network of rural milk producers.

  • The cooperative structure ensures farmer ownership, professional management, and a focus on fair returns and rural prosperity.

Significance

  • The Sabar Dairy Plant is part of the national push to strengthen the dairy sector, which has seen 70% growth over the past decade, with India leading global milk production.

  • This expansion aligns with government priorities to connect every village to cooperatives by 2029 and to further advance programs like White Revolution 2.0 and the National Cooperation Policy.

  • The plant directly supports millions of farmers, helps create substantial rural employment, and exemplifies the success of India’s cooperative dairy model.
