VL-SRSAM Missile System
Context:
Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two successful launches of Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM).
Key Highlights:
- The Vertical Launch – Short Range Surface to Air Missile, or VL-SRSAM
- It is a quick reaction surface-to-air missile
- Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
- It features mid-course inertial guidance with terminal active radar homing and is capable of being vertically launched from naval platforms of the Indian Navy.
- It is intended to replace older Barak-1 surface to air missile system onboard Indian Navy warships.
- VL-SRSAM will be used as short range air defence system for Indian navy and Indian Air Force.
- The launches were carried out today from a static vertical launcher from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
- During the test launches, flight path and vehicle performance parameters were monitored using flight data, captured by various Range instruments such as Radar, EOTS and Telemetry systems deployed by ITR, Chandipur.
